Design Work

So, I've been doing quite a lot of design work lately. Not really because I've been pursuing anything; it's just kind of come up. So check back every day for the next couple and you might see a few new things...

To start, here is a business card design that I did for my girlfriend (which makes it absolutely no less legit lol). I think they turned out well. Hatch show print was the obvious influence:

More Nikki

More pictures of a girl and her dog...

Technical Notes from the day (for those who are interested in that sort of thing):
It was a cloudy day, so I didn't have to worry too much about dark shadows. For a few of the photos, I used a small flash held by someone off camera, but I decided that for the natural, family look of these, I didn't really need it, the cloudy day gave nice light enough. I used a more telephoto lens to give a really nice blurred background, making my subjects look nice and crisp. When we went inside, I used the diffused light from the windows to give some soft and directional light from multiple directions.

Here is a shot from a shoot I did of Hannah Lee and the dog she loves so very much, Nikki. The two are inseparable. More pictures from this shoot to come!

Posters

So, lately I've been making a few posters for peoples' recitals. They are more graphic design than photography oriented, but I think it's fun. It's a different mindset when you are shooting; you must think about conveying a very specific message, and leaving room for text in the composition.

This was a poster for the amazing Hannah Lee Kettenacker:

I think it turned out nice. I like the colors, and she really liked the zebra stripes. This next one, however, is my pride and joy right now:

Daniel Chioco's Recital Poster. It is probably some of the best photoshopping I've done to date, and I'm pretty proud of that explosion. When shooting, we were going for an action movie feel, and I think the poster captures that really well. It's also playful, for if anyone knows Daniel, he is quite a subdued and calm fellow. Feel free to comment if you like the poster!

Today, I returned to my small, "quaint" place in Nashville. It was sad to leave family behind after spending Christmas break with everyone, but I am glad I still get to be with my wonderful girlfriend Hannah Lee. A photo of her to make everyone jealous:

Yep. That's right.
But it was a long drive up here, and it is quite freezing outside now. A big change from where I was less than a week ago, the Florida Keys.
