Local Honey Fall Fashion Weekend

Here's a couple runway shots from Local Honey's Fall Fashion Weekend. It had live music, fashion, drink; all in all a good time (even though it very nearly got rained out). But enough words, check out the pics:

Ocean is Theory Show Pics

Here are a few photos I took of Ocean Is Theory at The End, a small local indie dive. I think they have a gritty, intense look about them. I thought black and white was fitting for this set; it just gave a better feel to me than color.

Technical Notes:
The End was dark. Real dark. Camera setting-wise, I was really pushing it. I shot with my 85mm 1.8 opened up all the way, and most of the photos were shot ISO 6400. I'm comfortable shooting that f-stop, but I would have preferred a smaller ISO for less noisy photos. But I couldn't back off my shutter speed (around 200-400) without sacrificing sharpness. So, I worked with what I had, and don't regret it. Even if the conditions are less than ideal, you can still make decent photos. It's more about artistic vision than technical settings.

More Nikki

More pictures of a girl and her dog...

Technical Notes from the day (for those who are interested in that sort of thing):
It was a cloudy day, so I didn't have to worry too much about dark shadows. For a few of the photos, I used a small flash held by someone off camera, but I decided that for the natural, family look of these, I didn't really need it, the cloudy day gave nice light enough. I used a more telephoto lens to give a really nice blurred background, making my subjects look nice and crisp. When we went inside, I used the diffused light from the windows to give some soft and directional light from multiple directions.

Here is a shot from a shoot I did of Hannah Lee and the dog she loves so very much, Nikki. The two are inseparable. More pictures from this shoot to come!

Fireworks!

Fireworks! So, I know this is a little late (being after the Fourth of July and Labor Day, but at least I'm in before New Year's lol) Here are my quick tips to shooting fireworks:

1. Bring a tripod. It will probably dark, and you'll need a steady shot because you'll want to use...

2. Longer shutter speeds. This is great for catching those long trails as the sparks fall.

3. Be aware. You need to have your camera already pointing in the right direction, because you most likely won't have time to move it and reposition for a firework going off. You need to already be there.

Those are my three quick tips. Have fun!

Fourth of July! My Fourth of July was great. And now that the weather's starting to cool off, I'm starting to miss it even more.
